Rot Hat (work in progress)

A speculative historical fiction set in the dark ages. Before the Enlightenment, before human singularism ahead of all else under God. Let’s make a room for the darkness. I use screens to dance with myself. I use the conical hat to gather the knowledges of the universe into my body.

This new solo research seeks to tap the undercurrents of joy within melancholy, the ecstasy of loss. Rot is life, too. The ears are a hole to let the rot in, to hollow out my body, and fill it with surrounding lives. This dance is to amplify their songs. Just a jock, the tree is my coach, as is the lake and the mould, coaching me to decompose this conditioned body and return to soil.
